Reviews Mr. Coffee BVMC-EL1 Cafe Latte

I bought the Mr. Coffee cafe latte maker as a "might work" on the recommendations from others on Amazon, especially the informative video from Ms. Karchner. I am extremely picky about my coffee. Overall, I like this Mr. Coffee BVMC-EL1 Cafe Latte machine because the final product is a nice, hot cup of coffee. The automated process will brew coffee or espresso while heating and frothing milk to create a delicious latte.

It can be argued whether the coffee produced is cafe latte (espresso based) or cafe au lait (strong coffee based), but if you adjust your grounds, you should be able to find the combination of milk/grounds that suit your taste. It is fun to watch the machine at work, but you can also start up the pot & do other things while your coffee brews.
  • Delicious lattes in one simple touch
  • 24-ounce capacity to serve more than one drink at a time
  • Auto power off once drink is ready
  • Also makes hot chocolate; recipe book with 20 latte and hot chocolate recipes included
  • Uses 4-cup basket coffee filters (not included)
The frother mechanism will stop when the coffee is ready for pouring. The frother does a good job with our 1% lowfat milk, and we get about 1" of frothed milk when the machine stops brewing. Coffee strength varies on amount of grounds added. The recommended amount produces a strong enough coffee, and we found that 1% did not cover the coffee taste.

You cannot immerse the pot because it plug's base cannot be submerged. Mr. Coffee does include some recipes to make mocha, peppermint, hot chocolate and many other latte flavors but surprisingly they omitted one of the best and most frequent recipes that this Mr. Coffee BVMC-EL1 Cafe Latte  machine does very well and that is making regular coffee, or to call it by its European name "Caffe Americano"!

My morning ritual is to have one large 16oz cup of coffee and I could only justify the expense of this machine if it would handle both latte's and my regular morning coffee. Use 3 tablespoons of regular coffee grounds (more if you like it real strong or you can substitute espresso or other dark roast beans).

Fill the upper drip chamber with water to the SECOND line, and fill the carafe with water up to the FIRST line. Press the Mr. Coffee BVMC-EL1 Cafe Latte lever to start and in a few minutes you will have a wonderful 16oz cup of hot coffee! I hope this helps the die-hard coffee drinkers out there.

I do still feel excited waking up to a "latte", than regular ol' coffee. Convinced it's best with 1% organic milk & go a hair above the fill line. (in my opinion). Still having fun trying out different brands of Espresso!
