I have had my Philips Saeco HD8833/47 Syntia machine for over 4 years. During that time, I have found it to be very reliable- consistently producing good quality coffee with ease. Since the machine is relatively small in size, it does not hold a massive quantity of beans, the water tank does have to be filled often (but it is very easy to fill), and the waste bucket needs to be emptied after 4-5 uses (easy to dump).

In particular, the Saeco HD8833/47 Syntia machine produces coffee not only with consistent flavor, but also with an excellent crema- a hallmark of good coffee making! I have been drinking espresso for a long time and I appreciate a well-balanced, properly extracted, silky crema and rich cup of gold. This machine is quick and consistent with every cup.

The Philips Saeco Syntia HD8833/47 steamer works fantastically and takes mere seconds to warm up. The design makes a great foam on top for a perfect cappuccino or latte. The machine is built sturdy and is very low profile, which is great for smaller kitchens lacking counter-space. You can adjust the height of the spout for different sized cups.

The strength of the coffee and amount of coffee made per serving can be selected easily by pushing the appropriate button. It can make one large cup, or either one or two small cups at a time. A small cup provides sufficient coffee for a large cup when you add milk. The amount of coffee made per serving can be adjusted, to suit a particular sized cup or mug.

Philips Saeco HD8833/47 Syntia Pros:

• Makes great espresso. I can push the espresso button twice and it makes a double. Easy.
• Makes a decent Americano.
• You can use coffee beans or pre-ground coffee. I recommend you use good quality beans- a good machine needs good coffee! The inbuilt grinder will grind the coffee beans fresh for each cup.
• Machine is very small and attractive so looks good on the counter.
• Water and grounds holders pull out from the front so are easy to refill/clean.

Philips Saeco HD8833/47 Syntia Cons:

• The machine has a drip tray, which you need to empty and rinse out each day. This is easy to do- it slides out of the front of the machine.
• If I had one big complaint it's that the water hopper is really small - smaller even than my Talea.
