I have been making ice cream for decades using a variety of machines and this Cuisinart ICE-100 ice cream maker works well. The compressor is big enough to do the job of removing heat from the ice cream mixture in a reasonable time. So simple to make ice cream without all those expensive ice cream packets. Everyday milk, sugar and flavoring and in 40 minutes, you've got ice cream. Very simple to use and clean. Finally, ice cream made easy.

If you run the machine longer, it will get more solid. You can also get to a more frozen consistency more quickly by putting superchilled mix in the machine. Use an ice bath to bring the mix to a cold temperature, or put it in the freezer, shaking up the mix periodically. I turned mine up higher so that my ice cream batches would solidify more quickly.

Reviews/Advantages/Disadvantages

This Cuisinart ICE-100 Compressor ice cream maker is so quick and so much quieter than my old motorized tub maker, and doesn't need the mess of salt and ice. That cuts out the major irritation to making ice cream. This really increases my enthusiasm for ice cream making, and I have already picked out four more recipes from the same Creamery cook book to try. You won't regret having this ice cream maker - I promise. And I still have to try the gelato paddle, which will probably increase my ice cream making even more.

What a great ice cream maker. As noted by other reviewers it only has one time setting - 60 minutes - and not all ice cream/gelato/sorbet recipes take that amount of time. Again, as noted by others, the ice cream comes out soft serve consistency but if you put it in a Tovolo Ice Cream Tub (go buy these - you will love it) and leave it in the freezer for 2 hours or so it will harden up nicely. 

Conclusion

By the way, if you put your Tovolo Tub in the freezer to chill while you are making your ice cream, the ice cream will harden faster. I've bought all kinds of ice cream makers but this is the last one I will buy - unless they make one with a bigger tub :D

Those who complain that the
Cuisinart ICE-100 Compressor Ice Cream and Gelato Maker capacity is too small should realize that the size of the compressor and drive motor would increase proportional to the amount of ice cream that they would like to make.
